The University Council decided to 12:35:03establish a Secretariat Councils and Committees Department

starting from 1/9/1991. The department undertakes the secretariat work of the following councils and committees:

- Board of Trustees

- University Council

- Deans Council

- Appointment and Promotion Committee

- Scholarships Issues Committee

- Students Appeals Committee

The department also documents the transactions and correspondences submitted to the aforementioned councils and committees, prepares and documents the minutes of their sessions, indexes and categorizes the decisions of the councils and committees with the concerned authorities, and follows up on the implementation of amendments that may be made to regulations and instructions that are in force at the university, based on the decisions taken in this regard.

The department is also mainly concerned with carrying out work related to academic and administrative matters within the above mentioned councils, especially in the following areas:

• Establishing faculties, departments, programs and specializations, merging or eliminating them, and establishing professorial chairs.
• Creating Academic disciplines.
• Determining the number of accepted students and university fees.
• Appointing faculty members, managing their transferring, promotions, vacations, confirming them in their positions, and terminating their services.
• Delegating and sending scholarships to obtain Academic degrees.
• Granting Academic and honorary degrees.
• Authorizing of the university calendar.
• Reviewing draft regulations and instructions.
• Approving the scientific, technological and cultural cooperation agreements between the university and its counterparts outside the Kingdom.
• Accepting gifts and grants, and approving central tenders, which have validity.
